OPI has released two of its new Holiday 2013 gift sets for women, Take Ten and Top This! The Take Ten Collection has a miniature sampling of ten of OPI’s best selling winter-themed colors ranging from smooth sheer tones (Pirouette My Whistle, You Don’t Know Jacques!) to luscious reds (Cajun Shrimp, Big Apple Red, German-icure). The pure White Alpine Snow polish shines in this collection or can be added on top of the pink, playful Bubble Bath or Tickle My France-y for a feminine French Manicure. Each bottle is equipped with a mini version of the ProWide brush for controlled, neat application.
The OPI Top This! gift set features three essential lacquers to layer to create a perfect manicure with: Top Coat, Matte Top Coat, and Snowflakes In The Air. Top Coat features a glossy, protective lacquer that can be used in combination with Matte Top Coat for a silky finish. Snowflakes In The Air can be applied on top of these coats or another OPI color for a silver glitter rainbow, exclusive to the holiday Top This! kit. Use one or apply all three for a beautiful mixed look. OPI also has released a Top This! GelColor gift set, which features the Top Coat, Matte Top Coat, and Wonderous Star glitter coat.

The Glamour Beauty Blog has a great post on a do-it-yourself method for getting the fun ombre look at home. Yes, you read that correctly…this person, who is a L’Oréal spokesperson and manicurist for the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Zooey Deschanel, Anne Hathaway, and others, is first and foremost a dad. His name is Tom Bachik, and he has two sons and a teenaged daughter. It is on the fingernails of his daughter that he develops new ideas for nail art. He cherishes the time he does her nails because it’s an activity that they can do together.
He experiments a lot with different designs on his daughter’s digits, and she will tell him that she likes them or (politely) let him know that she is not the biggest fan of his latest nail art creation. He posts pics of his daughter’s nails (along with photos of his celebrity work) on Instagram. Whatever his method, it seems to work both for his family life and his career, which is touching and inspiring.
The 2013 fall and winter fashion collections have begun to debut, and as always, the nails are just as much fun as the haute couture. Nail artists bring their skills and decked out the models in a range of colors, textures, and designs, and just as fashion trends emerge, so do nail color trends.
The new mantra seems to be less is more. If summer is about the living being easy, the cold, crisp days of autumn and winter have brought a return to a more serious, understated look. Don’t panic – judging by the variety of hues, shapes, and colors out there, there is still plenty of fun to be had – though with a bit more restraint. Here’s a rundown of six of the biggest trends to hit the runway in fall and winter 2013.
1. Black is the New Black – Who can resist the perfect LBD? No one can, and the perfect LBN – little black nail – is alive and well. Consider some of the new black polishes, OPI’s Black Onyx, like butter LONDON, or like Union Jack Black. To get a truly opaque look, try layering a black shade with another deep, dark color like a Royal Navy. For the matte look, top your black lacquer with a matte coat like OPI’s Matte Envy, or if you prefer a shiny French finish, try swiping a glossy top coat just along the tips for a stunning statement. Polishes from different brands are often similar colors, so it helps to be able to see them next to each other to look at their differences. The PolishAholic has done a nifty comparison of four different Fall 2013 collections, one each from OPI, China Glaze, Essie, and Zoya.
If you check out her review, you can see similar colors next to each other on her fingers. She did a great job taking photos of all of the colors that are comparable so you can see which would be best for you.
